Web/Mobile App Critique

For application software, I reviewed the Netflix app. I have been using the Netflix app since 2016. When I started using the app, I streamed it on my TV. Over the years, I have streamed and downloaded movies on multiple phones, tablets, and laptops.

Usability

I have multiple streaming apps and find Netflix the most user-friendly.  You can search by categories or by what's new & hot. The profiles are remembered, so I do not have to click on my profile each time I go to Netflix. I like that the app has notifications of what's coming soon, and I like that I can rate a show, share a show, and add a movie to a list. I watch Netflix on my phone or tablet exclusively, and it works beautifully across both devices.

Design

The design of the website is pleasing to look at. The main page is straightforward, with three options at the top: TV shows, Movies, and Categories. The design makes it easy to navigate and find content to watch. It is not cluttered and makes sense.

Functionality

This application has many features that make it functionable. The app has an extensive content library of movies, TV shows, and games that can be watched on-demand or downloaded to watch when offline. The app allows for the creation of multiple profiles and enables parental controls to be set. The app analyzes viewing habits and recommends movies based on prior viewing habits.

Recommendations

The categories have a nice function, but sometimes they are misleading. New movies are a category that should be split in two. A new movie is a new release, but with Netflix, it can mean a newly added or latest release. That should be two separate categories. The same is true with sub-titled movies. They should be categorized by themselves or in the foreign category.
