Computers in the workplace
The industry I chose is telecommunications focusing specifically on cell phone companies. Cell phone companies are reliant on IT and being computer literate is essential to the success of employees and the company. From network engineers who configure the complex routers to the customer service reps who answer the phones and access customer information, computer literacy is essential. Computers are the backbone of cell phone companies with computer systems monitoring and controlling the network system. The computer system manages call routing, data transmission, signal strength and network traffic. Computers are also responsible for customer management where they handle all aspects of the accounts from billing and payments to customer support. Telecommunication companies handle massive amounts of data that computers analyze, and that data is used to understand customer behavior, identify trends and develop new products and services. Another important aspect that computers provide is security. Software is used to protect customer data, detect intrusions and prevent attacks.
Looking ahead to the future there will be significant advancements in computer hardware, software and networking. Looking at the past you can see the quick progression from 2g to the current 5g. That happened over a short span of time and that progression will continue. We will see faster speeds, lower latency and AI being leveraged.
